‘No economic progress in lack of promotion of agro sector’

Minister for Agricultural Development Gaurishankar Chaudhary has ruled out the possibility of economic progress in the country until development of agricultural sector.

Inaugurating the 24th annual General Assembly of Floricultural Association Nepal here today, Minister Chaudhary pledged to come up with new programmes targeting the promotion of agro sector.

He said currently government investment in the agricultural sector remained at 70 per cent and the government was committed to encouraging youth to get involved in farming. He further said the government was working on plans for implementing agro insurance scheme, providing pension and soft loan to farmers. “The government has a plan of forming the Peasants’ Commission by this year,” added.

On the occasion, Association Chair Dilip Bade said presently over 41,000 people are employed in floriculture business that witnessed annual transactions of worth Rs 220 million. RSS
