Genuine demands of temporary teachers will be addressed: PM Dahal

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that he would give special direction to the Education Ministry to resolve problems concerning the temporary teachers.

During a meeting with representatives of temporary teachers at his official residence at Baluwatar on Monday, Prime Minister Dahal said that he would take initiatives to address genuine demands of temporary teachers and ask education minister and secretary to take necessary initiatives for necessary arrangement.

He said, “I am aware about problems of education sector as I was in this profession earlier. I will take initiatives to resolve your problems. Genuine demands will be addressed.” The delegation drew the attention of the Prime Minister, saying the eighth amendment of the Education Act has not addressed the problems of temporary teachers.

The delegation demanded arrangement of treatment and gratuity, participation of temporary teachers in internal competition and revision of the eight amendment of Education Act, among others.

The temporary teachers had put forth demand with the PM for bringing into effect the Education Act-2063 BS, implementing the Supreme Court’s decision and entitling the retired teachers with some facilities among others.

On the occasion, Temporary Teachers Movement Committee Chairperson Nirendra Kunwar spoke of the need to induct temporary teachers as permanent staff through internal competition. The number of temporary teachers in the country stands at around 30,000.
