A teenager drowned on Sunday after being sucked into a mining pit dug up for excavating sand and gravel.
Raju Pariyar, 17, of Baireni – 9 was swimming in the Trishuli river when he was sucked into the pit, Baireni police post said.
The crusher industry which has been operating illegally in the area had dug up the pit to mine sand and gravel.
Environmentalist, Jagannath Nepal, said that such incidents had occurred last year as well, but the illegal mining did not stop.
