The Ministry of Health and Population has decided to set up lactation rooms at public places and health institutions.
As stated by Ministry’s Family Health Division chief Dr RP Bichha, preparations are underway to set up 30 breastfeeding rooms in the current fiscal year.
Besides, the Division has proceeded with the plan of developing various 30 health institutions in the nation into mother and child-friendly health facilities. A process has begun to select the health facilities to implement the plan.
The Teku-based building of the Department of Health Services has already been equipped with a breastfeeding room.
The Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Right Act- 2018 has the provision of management of a separate room by the government, non-government and private organizations for their female employees to breastfeed the child up to two years of age. Mother’s milk provides nutrients to the child and breastfeeding is considered vital for the child’s sound health and to boost up immunity power.(RSS)
