The girl students studying at secondary level in the government run schools of Dhanusha district received bicycles donated by the Indian government on Sunday amidst a function.
As many as 500 students of the Dalit community and coming from poor economic background received bicycles worth Rs 2.8 million. The students studying in Grade 9 and 10 are from 83 different schools.
Indian Embassy’s Second Secretary, Gyanveer Singh, distributed the cycles. Singh said the purpose of distributing the cycles was to make the students feel independent on psychological terms and allow them to arrive at schools on time.
On the occasion, Assistant Chief District Officer, Devendra Lamichane, insisted that daughters should not be deprived of the opportunity of studying at school.
