Inspector General of Police (IGP), Upendra Kant Aryal, returned on Sunday after participating in the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) held in the US from June 2-3.
IGP Aryal was received at the airport upon his arrival by Nepal Police’s Additional Inspector Generals (Additional IGPs), DIGs and senior police officials.
The Summit drew conclusion on effective mobilization of the UN police force to establish peace, contain crime and launch investigation as well as help maintain social peace and security in conflict-ridden countries of the world, IGP Aryal said.
The participants at the Summit deliberated on ways to make the deployment of the UN police force in peacekeeping missions more effective while finding and dealing with new challenges, he said.
The IGP further elaborated that all the representatives held extensive interaction on coordinating the exchange of information and resolving its glitches.
IGP Aryal in course of delivering his speech at the Summit had reminded the participants of Nepal’s extensive investment in the UN and called for representation of police officials in high and administrative posts of the UN peacekeeping missions rather than increment in the quantity of officials.
Police Chiefs of 110 countries from around the globe took part in the Summit. IGP Aryal had left the country to take part in the Summit on May 29.
